Management of External Research Collaborations

Description

JetBrains Research is a team of researchers and engineers advancing software development by bringing innovative technology and scientific research to JetBrains products.
To amplify our impact, we work closely with the broader research community in a variety of ways:
• We collaborate on research projects with top academic and industrial partners
• We communicate the results of our research to the outside world in popular form
• We engage with the scientific community through community service, internship programs, and sponsorships.

This internship is focused on our research collaborations. It presents an opportunity for the intern to gain insight into how academic-industry research collaborations work, and to develop hands-on experience at the intersection of science, technology, and organisational management.

The project in this internship is dedicated to summarising our experience in existing and prior research collaborations.
This includes:

  • Categorising existing collaborations based on their goals, depth of mutual legal agreements, degree of our involvement, and other aspects
  • Collecting feedback on select collaborative projects from internal stakeholders and external collaborators
  • Designing, writing, and refining a set of potential guidelines for setting up future collaborations.

Through this project, the intern will gain practical experience in mapping and structuring complex organizational processes, develop skills in stakeholder communication and qualitative analysis, and deepen their understanding of how research partnerships between academia and industry are initiated, managed, and evaluated.

It is possible to take part in this internship in the status of a working student.

Requirements

• Sincere interest in research and innovation
• Excellent command of spoken and written English
• Strong visual taste and attention to style and detail
• Finds meaning in connecting with people and in helping them streamline their work

While the role does not involve hands-on research, understanding the subject matter is essential to thrive. Hence, work experience as a researcher or research assistant, engineer, or community manager would be a big advantage in this role.

Familiarity with academic publishing workflows and IP/contract basics would also be an advantage.
